Laura Bradley

Singer / Composer

Laura is an LA-based musician/composer/singer whose fourth studio album, "Bleed" transcends over-simplistic genre categorization. Bradley harnesses the power of her trademark angelic sound and unleashes her voice with the spectral force of an emotional whiplash as this powerful rock album spins out into groove-heavy pockets of distortion, atonal dissonance, high-octane hooks and the haunting piano melodies that are the signature of Bradley's compositional style. With the addition of her phenomenal new band, The Longing, Laura gains a jagged, rhythm driven musical perspective that will only energize her ever-growing fan base.

Born in Toronto, Bradley grew up in Miami, Florida, where the musical influences are as diverse as the multicultural population. Singing from earliest childhood, and self-taught on piano and guitar into her early teens, her diligence and tenacity paid off in a music scholarship for operatic voice, where she simultaneously studied opera while singing rock, expanding her multi-octave range and developing the finely tuned vocal control that distinguishes her in the crowded field of singer-songwriters.

Always ready to push creative boundaries, The Longing joins Laura in blending buoyant, aurally addictive hooks, searing guitar work, multi-layered rhythm to enhance Bradley's tormented vocals and atmospheric piano to reveal "Bleed" – the latest studio effort released in August. The band consists of guitarists John Huldt and Sean Maier, bassist Michael Wallace and drummer, Tom Plumb – all formally trained, seasoned session and touring musicians with numerous high-profile production and engineering credits.

The stunning video for the single, "Bleed" was directed by Carmella Cardina, supervising producer of "The Green Room with Paul Provenza" on Showtime along with writer and producer, Flint, Bradley's sister. Set in a neglected yet beautiful mansion, it traces the story of a woman lost in the history of the old house and its secrets. The imagery of the past and present collide within the memories of romance, intrigue and blood.

The soul wrenching "Cool Dark Slip" opens with Bradley's haunting solo piano before exploding into an urgency of hard-driven guitars. "This is one the most achingly intimate songs on the album," Bradley says. "This song simply penned itself. I had recently lost someone I loved to suicide and I was drowning in loss and anger. In order to find forgiveness, I took on the persona, the story of why, and faced the pain, her pain and what it was like to take her own life."

The melodic and atmospheric, "This Flame", exposes Bradley's experience with the Angeles National Forest Station fire that burned Producer Wallace's StonyVille Cabin and Studios to the ground in 2010.

The fire took on a feminine identity and I hated her with all my heart. I speak directly to her in the song, telling her how she took from me a sense of safety and security. I had no power against her, and the change she was forcing upon me with her raging inferno. People like to think that all the songs are autobiographical when actually they are not. In the end, they are all very personal and meaningful to me, but I'm stepping into a persona as I am affected by a story, a confession, an event or the imagery of a situation.

Bradley has toured nationally as a solo artist in support of her first two CDs, RAIN and STORM (distributed by eOne), and became the opening act for both Colin Hay and Dionne Warwick & Friends at Miami's Bank United Center. With the addition of The Longing, the group has performed at numerous rock venues with a unified vision and sound that electrifies an audience. Impressed by her playful theatrics and easy rapport with an enthusiastic crowd at The Viper Room, Music Connection Magazine reviewer, Lisa Elaine Scott writes, "Laura is an accomplished composer and a sophisticated performer. Her risk-taking lyrical story lines, combined with stellar musicianship and a spellbinding stage presence, make for an outstanding live show. Unafraid to stray from the familiar formula, Laura Bradley and The Longing are creating aural art at its best."

With singles WICKED and FROZEN GROUND receiving tremendous airplay in the UK and 18 countries worldwide, as well as WICKED earning UK record of the week, Laura thoughts have focused to returning to the road. She reveals,

I never meant for this to be a project four years in the making, but you have to be able to step away and give something space to grow. The end result is exactly what I’ve always wanted: A thirteen song epic release of dramatic and difficult subjects, propelled by the rich and heavyweight sound of The Longing. I think we were all focused on playing this music live the entire time we were recording.

Previously, singles from RAIN and STORM were in rotation on multiple Clear Channel stations, and "Choosing You" was featured on the season finale of MTV's "The Real World — Down Under in Sydney". Bradley also has a great passion for film and co-composed the score for William Shakespeare's The Tempest, as well as writing and performing the theme song, "Sword and Stone." "Rain" was featured on the soundtrack for Benny Bliss and the Disciples of Greatness (feature film, Sundance Film Festival: Official Selection 2009), and "Love Song" the theme song on "Butterflies," a short film presented in Cannes 2009.

You can find Laura's entire back-catalog available on most digital and mobile service providers worldwide (iTunes, Amazon, Emusic, Spotify, etc). Current digital distribution is through The Orchard.

Michael Wallace

Bass

You climb this steep mountain of creation not because you're assured of an awesome view but for the love of climbing. Making this CD pushed my engineering skills to new heights and we've achieved our own unique sound as a band. Even though it's not always a gentle easy slope, listeners who don't mind being challenged on the way up will find the view from the top to be quite rewarding.

Born and raised in the remarkably small town of Kewaunee, Wisconsin, Michael moved to near-by Green Bay to attend the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where he received a BA in music performance. Michael collaborated with his professors to create a classical performance degree on electric bass and his senior recital featured a bass transcription of the famous Bach cello suites.

Michael began playing the bass at the age of 14 when his guitarist brother, David, created a band and needed a bass player. "And I thought it would be easy!" His early bass playing influences were Geddy Lee of Rush and Chris Squire of Yes. Michael and David played, composed and recorded in three bands together; Prodigy, Worlds and Karma Farm. All three of the bands share a moody, alternative, progressive rock feel.

Determined to find a town boasting more than 100,000 residents, Michael and his brother moved to Los Angeles with their band Worlds and is very happy to still be a Southern California resident. "No snow shoveling!" Other bands that Michael has played with in LA include: Baraka, DeeDee O'Malley, The Army of Love and The Jeffcoat Band.

Michael owns and operates When In Rome Studios where he produces, engineers and masters music for CD and audio for film. His classical musical background, as well as his engineering education from Los Angeles Recording Workshop, afford him the unique expertise required to produce and engineer a wide variety of musical genres from orchestral to punk and everything in between. Having come full circle, Michael now also teaches recording at the LA Film School.

Some of his musical clients include: The Manhattan Transfer, Vertical Horizon, Unwritten Law, No Doubt, Chris Isaac, Live, Laura Bradley, Sublime and Weezer. His film credits include: Benny Bliss and the Disciples of Greatness, National Lampoon's Cattle Call, Swing, The Tempest, Wild Turkey, Changing Hearts and My X-Girlfriend's Wedding Reception.

An avid sports fan, Michael's favorite teams are the LA Lakers and the Green Bay Packers. Also a weekend-warrior athlete, Michael plays tennis and basketball and will hike just about any mountain he encounters. His former hobbies included, "Tending to the demands of nature surrounding my cabin in the Angeles National Forest and washing too many wine glasses." The cabin and his original studio burned to the ground in the LA Station fire of 2009. Having traded the forest for an urban hillside, Michael now attempts to coax grass into the semblance of a lawn and washes even more wine glasses.

Tom Plumb

Drums

Making this record was fantastic, but playing live is what I enjoy most about music. The fact that the band is so good and so together, to get the right pieces in terms of members and really working hard at arranging the songs "for" the band and all of those things make it such an awesome experience to play live.

Born and raised in Sacramento California, Tom began taking lessons at the age of 10. "I've always wanted to play drums, my parents told me that as early as age three I was fascinated by drumming." He participated in school music programs and played snare drum for the Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. He moved to Fresno where he was awarded a music scholarship to CSU. Tom received his bachelor's degree in business before moving to LA in 2007 to pursue career in music.

If I weren't a musician, I'd probably go into aviation. A lot of people in my family are involved one area of aviation or another. My brother is a pilot, and works as an aircraft mechanic with my dad. We grew up watching my dad fix and build things. Whether it's putting a roof on the house, or doing an overhaul on the family car, he does it all. It really instilled in me early on the value of hard work, and attention to detail."

Tom was a snare drum instructor for both the Sacramento Freelancers (WGI drumline) and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps (DCI) from Wisconsin. He currently teaches private lessons, as well as community drum classes at a few local city colleges. He also plays and records with numerous bands, including the award winning Orange County based funk band Allensworth, fronted by Jamie Allensworth.

In addition to the bands he plays with, Tom is a gifted freelance musician. With an appreciation and passion for playing "all kinds of music", he accepts gigs and session work from a large cross section of artists in southern California where his diverse talents are in high demand.

A basketball fan, but ever the fair sportsman, he has no favorite team. That said, he does have a passion for classic cars, "I love classic muscle cars, especially my Firebird! I've had it since a year out of high school. I always wanted a Camaro – my dream car for years when I was younger (and to a large degree still is!). But one day I was driving around my neighborhood and came across a 1971 Firebird for sale. It only had 46,000 miles on it, and all the options I wanted.  I've spent a lot of time in that car over the years. And I love it to death!"

John Huldt

Rhythm & Lead Guitar

This music is unlike any that I've heard before, such strong material and skilled players...I'm so stoked to be a part of The Longing, and counting the minutes till the release of Bleed!

Originally from Sweden, The Longing's rhythm guitar player, John Huldt, has called Los Angeles home since 2006. An award winning guitar player, John is/has become known as one of the most versatile guitarists among his peers and has been receiving accolades from many of the industry's top names.

He released two solo albums, the 2008 "Rules Do Not Apply" and in 2012, "A Permanent State Of Transformation," both to much critical acclaim. Whereas "Rules" was more of a straight up guitar record, "Permanent State" focused heavily on orchestration and composition.

John is the go-to for producers and songwriters in the LA area where he keeps busy with session work between tours. He also coaches bands, creates tracks for commercials and jingles and teaches private lessons in guitar, bass and piano.

A former student of The LA Music Academy himself, John is now teaching the advanced rock classes there for which he also wrote the curriculum.

With John's powerful style of playing and dark sense of humor, he oft gets hired to do demos, videos and clinics for various manufacturers in the music industry. You can also find him at the larger trade shows like NAMM and LA Amp show, demoing and running clinics and panels.

John has won several talent competitions and most notably was one of the top 6 finalists in Lee Ritenour's 6 string theory competition in 2011 and was awarded "Guitar player of the year" in the 2012 South Bay Music Awards. He also won the "Waves of shred" online guitar competition.

Besides The Longing, John plays lead guitar for metal standout, Ampora and ex Godhead singer, Jason Charles Miller's solo band.

T Rex Pedals, Kemper Profiling Amp, Elmwood Amplification, Mad Professor effect pedals, Seymour Duncan pickups, Brimstone Audio Products, Hipshot products, George El's cables, and Oceanaut Watches.

Sean Maier

Lead & Rhythm Guitar

I'm really excited to be the new addition to THE LONGING," says Guitarist Sean Maier, "I can't wait to hit the stage and put out this crazy exciting material alongside some sick musicians!

The Longing's lead guitarist, Sean Maier, hails from Long Island, New York where he began playing and studying guitar at the age of 13. He attended Five Towns College for Jazz Commercial Performance and began teaching guitar lessons privately around Long Island.

In 2005, at age 21, Sean joined the band Blessed By A Broken Heart and began touring around the United States and Canada. In 2006, he embarked upon his first European tour with Enter Shikari. Shortly after the European tour, Blessed inked a worldwide deal with Century Media records and recorded their first record, "Pedal To The Metal" in British Columbia with notable producer Garth Richardson. Sean spent the next few years with Blessed touring the globe extensively with notable acts such as A Day To Remember, The Devil Wears Prada, and Bring Me The Horizon. In 2009, Blessed toured Japan twice, most notably attending the Loud Park Festival in Tokyo sharing the stage with acts such as Judas Priest, Megadeth, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Dokken, Loudness, and Steel Panther.

After years of touring with Blessed and acting as fill-in guitarist for label mates Into Eternity on a 33 date North American tour, Blessed parted ways with Century Media and struck a deal With Tooth & Nail records. In April of 2011, they entered the studio with notable producer James Paul Wisner to record their second album "Feel The Power". Shortly after the album was released, frontman Tony Gambino parted ways and the band called it quits shortly thereafter.

Sean has worked with up-and-coming producer Chris McDonald (Timbaland, Dream Theater and Jimmy Webb). Aside from taking his playing in a more commercial route, Sean is still actively teaming up with rock bands and musicians on projects such as Shred Starz.
